Since 2021 Ivaylo Kalfin is the Executive Director of the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofund). It is one of the first agencies of the European Union, created in 1975 to study issues of employment, working conditions and quality of life in European countries.He was twice elected Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Labor and Social Policy (2014-2016) and Minister of Foreign Affairs (2005-2009). He was elected four times as a Member of Parliament and once as a Member of the European Parliament (2009-2014). From 2016 to 2019 he was Special Adviser to the European Commissioner for Budget Günter Oettinger. Between 2002 and 2005 he was Secretary of Economic Policy to President Georgi Parvanov. In addition to a long career in the public sphere and politics, Ivaylo was the director of the Institute of Economics and International Relations, he worked in various positions in the private sector.
The COVID-19 pandemic significantly accelerated labor processes that had already begun. Remote work, the platform economy, non-traditional forms of work have significantly changed the landscape of work activity throughout the European Union. Not so much the nature as the speed of change pose a significant challenge to both societies and labour market participants. The ability to adapt quickly will create many new opportunities, and vice versa - the lack of such will provoke new deep social divisions and problems. In his session Ivaylo Kalfin will present some results and conclusions of the Eurofund research of the last year in this field.
