Prof. Rumyana Stoilova is President of the Bulgarian Sociological Association since 2018, Director of the Institute for the Study of Societies and Knowledge at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (2010-2018). She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Center for Women in Technology and is an expert at the Martens Center for European Studies. In her professional career as a sociologist, she balances research (since 1982 at the Institute of Sociology) and teaching (Southwestern University Blagoevgrad 1997-2004, Sofia University and New Bulgarian University 2008-2012). She has visited the Universities of Budapest, Vienna, Mannheim, Bielefeld, Munich, Bamberg, Hamburg and Oslo.
Prof. Stoilova is currently the head of the project “Digital Divisions and Social Inequalities” (2021-2024). She led the Bulgarian teams in the project “Negotiating early job-insecurity and labour market exclusion in Europe” (2015-2018), funded by Horizon 2020; as well as the project “Social inequalities and regional differences in transitions from education to work in Bulgaria”, funded by the Bulgarian-Swiss Research Fund (BSHIT) and the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science (2012-2015).
