Kiril Valchev

Kiril Valchev is the 27th CEO in a row in the 123-year history of the oldest Bulgarian media - BTA. After graduating with a Master's degree in Law from Sofia University, in 1995 Mr. Valchev completed a professional course in radio management at Deutsche Welle in Cologne, Germany. In 2000, he was a Fellow of the German Marshall Fund's European Leaders Program in the United States. He also completed an internship (in 2003) in the Bulgarian section of “BBC” in London, UK. He is a long-time author and host of the review journalistic shows “The Week” (since 1994) and “The Year” (since 1996) on Darik Radio.

From 2000 to 2004 he was a freelance assistant professor of civil law at the Faculty of Law of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Since 2005, he has been a managing partner of a law firm specializing in the field of media and intellectual property. He consults media, theaters, operas, philharmonies, museums, galleries, individual artists and artists. Since 2005, he has been Secretary of the Management Board and permanent legal adviser for the establishment and activities of the Union of Bulgarian National Electronic Media (SBNEM) - an association of BTA, BNT, BNR, BTV, Nova Television and Darik Radio.

In 2019 - 2020 he was a member of the expert group on amendments to the Law on Radio and Television of the Committee on Culture and Media of the National Assembly. He is the winner of a number of awards and awards in the field of media. As a lawyer in the field of intellectual property and media law, Kiril Valchev actively participated in the life of BTA as a legal consultant. In 2003 and 2011 Valchev is a legal consultant in the drafting of the Law on BTA (at the end of 2011 the law was adopted by the National Assembly). From 1993 to 1995 he worked in the Editorial “Information for Abroad” of BTA. He is also a participant and moderator of discussions at the World Meetings of the Bulgarian Media, organized by BTA and the Association of Bulgarian Media around the world. On January 27, 2021, he was elected by the 44th National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria as General Director of BTA.
